UPDATE: 6 a.m.: Two young girls taken from their Coloma, Mich., home are safe and the man accused of kidnapping them and killing two other people at the home is in police custody.

Nova Perez, 4, and Luna Perez, 3, were found safe by police near Georgetown, Colo., and are now in custody of Child Protective Services, according to Michigan State Police. An Amber Alert issued for them was cancelled.

The girls were taken from a home in the 6400 block of North M-63 by their biological father, 24-year-old Alex Perez, police said. Perez was arrested when the girls were found.

Georgetown, Colo, is about a 16-hour drive from Coloma.

Perez is also suspected of killing two people found dead inside of the home.

The two bodies inside the home were discovered by a relative, who went to the residence Thursday, Jan. 14. The family member got into the home by climbing a ladder and entering through an open window, according to Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Dawson.

One of the victims is believed to be the mother of the two girls.

The bodies had injuries consistent with a physical beating or assault, but police won’t know how they died until autopsies are performed, Lt. Dawson said.

Both the kidnapping and the double homicide are under investigation.

Michigan State Police have issued an Amber Alert for two children they say were taken by their father from a home in Coloma in Berrien County, Mich.

The children are identified as 4-year-old Nova Perez and 3-year-old Luna Perez. Both girls are described as Hispanic, with black hair and brown eyes and weighing 30 pounds, according to Michigan State Police.

Police believe they were abducted from their home in the 6400 block of North M-63, where police are investigating a double homicide believed to be connected to the kidnapping.

Police believe the children were abducted from their home by their biological father, 24-year-old Alex Perez. He’s described as a Hispanic man with black hair and brown eyes, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 135 pounds.

Police believe Perez may be driving a tan 2003 Chevrolet Impala with Michigan license plate AYY-708. They believe he could be headed to California or Mexico.
