Cassopolis man sentenced for deadly 2025 Dowagiac shooting

A Cassopolis man has been sentenced in connection with a deadly shooting in Dowagiac last year.

Demorrio Lowes was sentenced to between six and 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter. He received credit for nearly a year already served in jail.

Prosecutors say the shooting followed an argument in July of 2025.

A 19-year-old Benton Harbor man later died from his injuries.

As part of the plea agreement, murder and felony firearm charges were dismissed.
