Man in custody after 2 women found strangled in Gary

GARY, Ind. (AP) — Lake County authorities say a person of interest is in custody after a former radio talk show host and her daughter were strangled.

Investigators said Monday that a 44-year-old man who worked for the victims was arrested on unrelated charges in Montpelier, Ohio, after a car belonging to one of the victims was found there.

Sheriff John Buncich says 86-year-old Velia “Val” Taneff and 63-year-old Lana Taneff were found dead of strangulation and blunt force trauma Sunday.

Investigators say Val Taneff’s body was found at a property she owned and her daughter’s at the nearby home the two women shared.

The (Munster) Times reports Val Taneff was active in Democratic politics and hosted a political talk radio program called “The Real Deal with Val Taneff” that had aired on WLTH.
