INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Democratic schools Superintendent Glenda Ritz opposes legislation pushed by GOP lawmakers that would rescore the 2015 ISTEP after problems were revealed with the administration of the test.

Ritz spokesman Daniel Altman said Tuesday that there’s no evidence of problems with the actual scoring of the exams in which students performed poorly as a result of difficult new standards.

The standards were hastily put in place after Republican lawmakers pulled Indiana from national Common Core standards in 2014.

Altman also sought to undercut Republican criticisms of the Department of Education’s administration of the test. He says Ritz worked proactively with the test vendor as glitches arose.

House Education Chairman Bob Behning wants ISTEP rescored because he says parents need to be confident in the test’s legitimacy.
