INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Authorities say an adult was killed and two children were seriously injured when a bus waiting outside an Indianapolis elementary school suddenly lurched forward and struck them.

Indianapolis Fire Department Capt. Rita Reith said the bus crossed over a curb and struck the three Tuesday afternoon. She says the two children, both 10, were taken to Riley Hospital for Children with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Reith says the bus driver and 25 students on the bus were not injured in the incident outside Amy Beverland Elementary School in Lawrence Township on the city’s far northeast side.

Reith says buses were lined up outside the school when one lurched forward for some reason. She says the driver is being interviewed.

Television footage showed worried parents gathered outside the school.
