Fisherman dies after falling through ice in lake near Muncie

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say a fisherman died after falling through the ice on a small lake near Muncie.

The (Muncie) Star Press reports relatives told investigators that 70-year-old Dorsel Goings, of rural Summitville, 30 miles northwest of Muncie, had been fishing at the lake several days this week. Authorities were called shortly after 5 p.m. Friday after his fishing gear was found near a hole in the ice 50 feet from shore.

State Conservation Lt. Andy Wuestefeld said divers found his body, in about 14 feet of water, within a few minutes of entering the water. He was pronounced dead at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital at 7:09 p.m.
