Silver Beach Carousel to reopen in St. Joseph after renovations

ST. JOSEPH, Mich. (AP) — The newly refurbished Silver Beach Carousel is set to reopen in downtown St. Joseph after being closed during January for renovations.

A representative for the Ohio-based company that manufactured and installed the carousel in 2010 says it has received a new deck and floors, fresh varnish and other touches.

The indoor carousel will reopen Thursday, just in time for Waikiki Weekend, a tropical-themed event at the Silver Beach Center. The festivities will be held in conjunction with the Magical Ice Fest.

The merry-go-round features horses and other menagerie figures, including local sports mascots, a giraffe, a snow leopard and a panda.

The carousel’s model train exhibit will be revamped this spring, with displays highlighting Michigan’s history and geographical diversity.
