Bremen Highway crash leaves man dead as black ice causes crashes throughout Michiana

A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Bremen Highway in St. Joseph County on Thursday morning, Feb. 4.

It was one of several crashes reported throughout Michiana on Thursday as black ice covered much of the roads in Elkhart and St. Joseph counties.

The man was driving a vehicle that slid off the roadway south of the U.S. 20 Bypass at about 4:15 a.m., according to our news partners ABC 57.

Bremen Highway was shut down between Jackson and Kern roads because of the crash, but the road reopened around 7:30 a.m.

Crashes have also been reported in these areas:

  • Near New and Ironwood roads south of South Bend, where a vehicle crashed into a pole and live wires are down
  • On S.R. 120 at C.R. 17 east of Elkhart, where a vehicle crashed into a pole and live wires are down
  • S.R. 19 in Wakarusa, which has traffic backed up as far north as the American Countryside Market
  • U.S. 31 south of LaPaz
  • S.R. 15 south of Bristol, where several vehicles collided
  • S.R. 15 north of New Paris, where two vehicles rolled over
  • U.S. 20 Bypass, where several slide-offs and crashes were reported
  • U.S.20 Bypass entrance from Old U.S. 20 in Elkhart County
