LaPorte County man killed in snowmobile crash near Wanatah

WANATAH, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say a 41-year-old man is dead after a snowmobile he was driving crashed into a parked semitrailer in northern Indiana.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources said Wednesday that Jason Beecher of Koontz Lake was found dead on the property of Kaiser Farms near the west side of Wanatah.

A department statement added that an investigation believe that Beecher’s snowmobile hit the rear of the trailer at a high rate of speed.The state agency says Beecher wasn’t wearing a helmet or any additional safety equipment.

The death is being investigated by Indiana conservation officers and the coroner’s office in Indiana’s LaPorte County, where the crash occurred.
