South Bend Police Department hires consultant to re-organize department

The South Bend Police Department is hiring a consulting agency to help re-organize the department.

The Riseling Group, based in Wisconsin, will interview local officials, officers and residents, evaluate the department and then give its recommendation for how to recruit, retain and structure officers and other department employees, WSBT reported.

While it’s not clear how much the company will be paid, Chief Scott Ruszkowski told WSBT that it would be less than $25,000 because the South Bend Board of Public Works didn’t have to approve the funding.

Ruszkowski said he wants to make sure the re-organization process doesn’t cost taxpayers more money and that he wants their input in the process.

“Our community, our taxpayers, have a right to input,” he told WSBT. “I don’t think we’ve been really good about doing that before.”

Find out when The Riseling Group will begin its evaluation in the full story from WSBT.
