Funeral services next week for slain central Indiana deputy

KOKOMO, Ind. (AP) — The funeral for a slain central Indiana sheriff’s deputy will be next week at the high school where he was assigned part-time for the past two years.

Officials announced Tuesday that the visitation and funeral for Howard County Deputy Carl Koontz are set for Northwestern High School near Kokomo.

The visitation will start at 1 p.m. Monday, with the funeral at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be at Albright Cemetery in Kokomo.

Police say Koontz was fatally wounded during a gunfight early Sunday inside a mobile home in Russiaville. Another deputy wounded in the shooting was released Monday from an Indianapolis hospital. Police say 25-year-old gunman Evan Dorsey killed himself.

Koontz worked twice a week at Northwestern School Corp. as a school resource officer.
