Saint Mary's College receives $6 million from trust of an alumnae

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — The trust of a Saint Mary’s College alumnae has donated $6 million to her alma mater.

The South Bend Tribune reports the money from the late Mary Lee Sheftic, a 1958 Saint Mary’s graduate, will endow a scholarship in her name and provide resources for the renovation and expansion of the Angela Athletic & Wellness Complex.

The complex scheduled to be completed in fall 2017 will be more than twice the size of the current facility. The project will add 61,000 square feet to the floor plan, creating a total of 105,000 square feet for student recreation and fitness and the college’s eight Division III sports.

Sheftic died in Boswell, Pennsylvania, in May 2015 at age 78.
