South Bend fire station's proposed location draws concerns

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — A new fire station’s proposed spot near South Bend’s zoo is drawing concerns from a newly formed community group.

The South Bend Tribune reports the station’s proposed location is in Potawatomi Park. The group called “Protect Potawatomi Park” has created an online petition that demands other possible locations for the fire station be considered.

The group’s concerns include losing parkland and that station noise would disturb people in the park and animals at Potawatomi Zoo.

Mayor’s office spokeswoman Kara Kelly says the city is still evaluating the feasibility of a location in the park for the fire station.
