Mishawaka man arrested in connection to deadly shooting in downtown South Bend on Tuesday night

UPDATE (4 p.m.): Michael Young has been charged with murder for the shooting death of Markest Tyrone Flowers, 27. Flowers died of a gunshot wound and his death was ruled to be homicide, according to a news release from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office. Young is being held without bond and remains in the custody of the St. Joseph County Jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, June 2.

ORIGINAL STORY: A Mishawaka man has been identified as the man who surrendered to police after Tuesday night’s fatal shooting in South Bend.

Michael Young, 69, was arrested for the shooting death of a man on Tuesday, May 30, at the corner of Colfax and Main Streets in downtown South Bend, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

The case is under review and no possible motive for the shooting has been released at this time, ABC 57 reported.

No formal criminal charges had been announced as of Wednesday morning, and the victim’s name is still being withheld until family members have been notified, ABC 57 reported.

The victim’s autopsy was scheduled to take place on Wednesday.
