A construction worker was hospitalized Tuesday morning, June 7, after he was injured while working in a new residence hall at the University of Notre Dame.

The 54-year-old suffered a puncture wound in his back just before 9:30 a.m. at Flaherty Hall, The Observer reported. He was taken to Memorial Hospital of South Bend.

Notre Dame Security Police is investigating the incident as a possible assault, while Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the worker’s company are investigating the incident as a workplace accident.

It wasn’t immediately clear what company the man worked for.

Flaherty Hall is a women’s residence hall expected to open to students in August.
