If a tragedy like the Orlando shooting ever happens in Michiana, the level two trauma center at Memorial Hospital in South Bend is ready for it.

The hospital uses the same paging system as the hospital in Orlando and staff practices drills every year to prepare for a mass casualty situation, our news partners ABC 57 reported.

If a mass casualty situation happens — whether it’s a shooting, a automobile crash or another tragedy — there are eight trauma surgeons who will be paged to Memorial Hospital. Other doctors, nurses and staff members will fill in other roles as needed.

Memorial staff will also go through mass shooter response training in the fall.

Read more about the training in the story from ABC 57.
