A one-year old child was found dead on Friday, June 17, at a home in Elkhart.

Officers were called to the 1500 block of West Franklin Street just before 4 p.m. on a call of a child who was unresponsive, according to Sgt. Chris Snyder with Elkhart Police.

The grandmother of the child attempted to wake the child from a nap and found the child unresponsive, according to Snyder.

911 was called and CPR was started. Paramedics from the Elkhart Fire Department arrived on scene and immediately transported the child to Elkhart General Hospital, Snyder stated.

The child, who was 1 year and 9 months old, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

An autopsy is expected to be conducted sometime this weekend.

The case remains under investigation.
