Teenage girl struck by hit-and-run driver in Dowagiac

A 17-year-old girl on a skateboard was struck by a vehicle in Dowagiac.

The collision happened just before 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, on Riverside Drive near Hill Street, according to a news relase from the Dowagiac Police Department.

The victim told officers that she was riding her skateboard when she was grazed by an oncoming vehicle which caused her to fall. She suffered cuts and scrapes from the fall. The victim was treated and released at Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital, the news release stated.

The vehicle did not stop and continued southbound on Riverside Drive, according to the news release.

The victim described the vehicle as being maroon and possibly an older “boxy style” Chevrolet.
