Women recount getting lost on tubing trip, night in woods

MUSKEGON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Three women who got lost tubing on a western Michigan river say they spent the night in some woods and fought off mosquitoes while trying to keep warm.

Tea McGough tells The Muskegon Chronicle that the “night was like a horror movie.”

The 28-year-old McGough, 27-year-old Tara Johnson and 20-year-old Raeniquah Watson embarked Tuesday afternoon along the Muskegon River in large inflatable tubes.

The group says they were told the waterway looped and would return to their launch point. It didn’t.

McGough, Johnson and Watson eventually steered to a riverbank near a forest to look for a house, but became lost. Wednesday morning, they found their tubes and got back on the river where anglers on a boat spotted them about noon and called 911.
