Boat slams into Lake Michigan break wall, killing 2 people

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say a boat has crashed into a Lake Michigan break wall near the marina in East Chicago, Indiana, killing two people and injuring another.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources’ law enforcement division says in a news release that the crash happened early Saturday.

It identified those killed as 62-year-old Timothy Dunlap, of Lynwood, Illinois, and 68-year-old Richard Wade, of Hammond, Indiana. The Lake County Coroner’s Office pronounced them dead at the scene.

Conservation officers say reduced visibility, speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors.

They are using a remotely operated vehicle to search the crash site for any additional victims.
