Elkhart Police warn of new telephone scam targeting the elderly

A new telephone scam is rearing is claiming local victims.

The scam, which seems to be targeting the elderly, a phony attorney calls and indicates a relative of the victim was involved in a crash, according to the Elkhart Police Department.

The phony attorney indicates the subjects the victim’s relative struck will be willing to drop all criminal charges for a price.

The phony attorney instructs the victim to go to Best Buy and purchase a large amount of Apple I-Tune Cards.

The phony attorney then has the victim forward the cards or information from the cards to him.

You’re advised to do some research, call family and friends, or the better business bureau, before sending any money or prepaid cards to an individual you do not know.
