Victim in attempted robbery in Benton Harbor shoots suspect

A man who was being robbed by two other men shot one of the suspects in the face.

It happened on Wednesday, Aug. 3, in Benton Harbor, Mich.

The shooting and armed robbery occurred on the west side of the building at Harbor Towers, according to a news release from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

The two suspects who planned to rob the man lured him to the side of the building.  When the victim refused to give money, one of the suspects struck him in the face.  The victim then drew his own weapon and started firing at the two suspects, the news release stated.

The suspect who was struck in the face was taken to Lakeland Hospital then flown to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. He is expected to survive, the news release stated.

The second suspect took off, but was located shortly afterward, arrested and interviewed. During the interview, the second suspect confessed to taking part in the robbery, according to the news release.

The second suspect was booked into the Berrien County Jail.

Charges are expected for the suspect who is hospitalized.
