Woman hospitalized in critical condition after SWAT standoff in Mishawaka

A SWAT standoff in Mishawaka ended peacefully with one woman fighting for her life in the hospital and a man placed under arrest.

Mishawaka Police were called to Twelfth Street Apartments at 12th Street and Byrkit Avenue around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25, when a dispute between neighbors turned into a violent battery situation, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

On arrival, officers found a female with life threatening injuries, ABC 57 reported.

Neighbors were evacuated while the SWAT team negotiated with the suspect who refused to leave his apartment.

The suspect surrendered shortly after 9:00 p.m., ABC 57 reported.
