Two people were shot and killed near downtown Elkhart.
Police were called to the 400 block State Street around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20 after several people called 911 reporting the sounds of gunshots, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth.
Officers arrived and discovered two male victims both of which suffered from gunshot injuries. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
At this point in the investigation it appeared there was a dispute, which lead to shots being fired, according to Sgt. Chris Snyder with The Elkhart Police Department.
Investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident and do not believe the citizens
in the neighborhood should be concerned for their safety due to this incident.
Detectives remained on scene interviewing witnesses and evidence technicians were processing the scene and collecting evidence throughout Tuesday.
Autopsies are planned in Kalamazoo Wednesday morning.
Anybody with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Elkhart Police Department at 574-295-7070 or the Tip Line at 574-389-4777.
