A Kalamazoo man that was reportedly causing some trouble in an Elkhart CVS tried to jump into the river to escape police. He succeeded, but just for a little while.

The incident started at a CVS on the 500 block of East Jackson Boulevard in Elkhart. Garry Neill, 36, was one of the two people that CVS employees called police on just after noon Tuesday, according to the Elkhart Police Department.

One of the suspects stopped when police asked him to. However, Neill fled on a bicycle and was able to evade police for a little while.

He was discovered once again in the 400 block of North Main Street. He fled police again, and jumped in the St. Joseph River. Police watched as he traveled down the river and exited on the 500 block of Sherman Street. Police arrested him without incident.

Neill is in Elkhart County Jail on a resisting law enforcement charge. He also had an outstanding Elkhart County warrant.
