Michiana jobless rate goes up in August despite statewide drop

Michiana is experiencing a small rise in unemployment, even while the state is seeing a drop.

In St. Joseph County, unemployment jumped from 4.5% in July to 5.0% in August. In Elkhart County, it rose from 3.7% to 4.0%.

The state set all-time highs last month in the total number of employed workers, along with total labor force, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
