RV shipments bounce back in August after sluggish July

(Sam Householder/Elkhart Truth)

A rough July for the local RV industry appears to have been negated by a strong August.

35,946 units were shipped out in August, according to stats obtained by our reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth.

That’s almost a 27% jump from July and a 31.5% jump from August 2015’s totals. For the year, 290,582 units have been shipped out, which is outpacing 2015 at this time of year by 13%.

In July, shipments fell to 28,350 units. That’s not only down from June’s 40,000 units, but it’s the first time in 2016 shipped units fell below 30,000.

Of all the units shipped so far, 87% of them have been travel trailers, with over 253,000 shipped out so far.

The RV industry still is on pace to meet or beat the 405,300 units it expected to ship out by the end of the year.
