He evaded police for 11 days. He didn’t make it a 12th day.
Walter Sylvester Davis II has been arrested by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office. He was wanted for fleeing the scene of a fatal hit-and-run crash on Sept. 17. He was arrested on multiple charges, including failing to stop at an accident causing death, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers were sent to the two-vehicle crash on Scottdale Road near Rockey Weed Road in Royalton Township around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18, according to Lt. Steve Campbell with the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.
A 1998 Buick was traveling north on Scottdale Road with two passengers and a 1999 Honda was south traveling in the opposite lane when the two vehicles collided, Campbell stated.
The driver of the Buick, Jason Ransom, 36, of Niles Mich., was pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver of the 1999 Honda who left the scene has been identified. A report will be sent to the prosecutor for review. A second person in the Honda also took off from the scene, Campbell stated.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor, Campbell stated. The Berrien County accident investigation team and detective bureau are investigating the crash.
