Two hurt in crash in rural Cass County

Two people were hurt in a crash Tuesday afternoon in Cass County, Michigan.

A car and a semi collided at the intersection fo Marcellus Hwy. and Decatur Rd. in Volina Township just before 3 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators say that the driver of a car heading northbound on Decatur Rd. did not yield at the intersection with Marcellus Hwy. A semi tried to swerve out of the way, but was unable to and hit the car.

The semi ended up jack-knifing on the north side of Marcellus Hwy. The car ended up on its roof after spinning to the south side of the road.

Both drivers were taken to area hospitals for treatment. It’s unknown what the extent of their injuries are.

Both were wearing seatbelts and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. Deputies are continuing to investigate.
