A brief police chase led to a crash northwest of downtown South Bend late Wednesday night.

It started as a traffic stop before the suspect took off. The suspect’s vehicle, which had two children inside, ended up crashing onto its side near Wilber and Bulla Streets, according to ABC 57.

Police say the two children were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. No word on their condition Thursday morning.

The male suspect was tracked down and arrested. He’s been charged with DUI, two counts of fleeing the scene of a crash causing serious bodily injury, and resisting law enforcement. He was given those felony charges after also needing treatment at the hospital.
