South Bend’s “ReLeaf” leaf pickup program starts Monday

Leaves have started their exodus from tree branches in South Bend, and the city feels it’s time for some “ReLeaf”.

South Bend’s leaf pickup program begins on Monday. That means, depending on what section you’re in, you’ll need to get your leaves out to the curb.

Here’s some guidelines from the city of South Bend:

  • Please rake leaves to the curb line but do not rake leaves into the street, as this will plug the street drains, which could cause flooding during rain.
  • Avoid parking on top or in front of leaf piles along curb lines, as this hampers collection crews.
  • Do not contaminate leaf piles with sticks, trash, or other debris. To prevent equipment damage, crews cannot collect such piles and property owners will be responsible for their disposal.
  • Burning leaves is a violation of City ordinance.
