Berrien Springs man shot during attempted home invasion

An Oronoko Township man is recovering after he was shot Friday during what police say was an attempted home invasion.

The 32-year-old man was shot in the left shoulder inside his home on the 200 block of East Snow Rd. in Oronoko Township at about 10:20 a.m., according to Berrien Springs-Oronoko Township police.

The man had been approached by three black men, one of which asked to use his phone because his had no service. One of the suspects then pulled a gun on the victim and forced him inside the house. A struggle ensued, and the victim was shot.

The suspects fled the scene while the victim went to a neighbor’s house to get assistance. He’s expected to fully recover after being treated at a local hospital.

The suspects left in a newer white Ford Focus. Police believe that this wasn’t a random act of violence and that the house was targeted. Officers are still investigating why the house was targeted.
