Teen injured when car collides with bike in Elkhart

A teenager is recovering after a vehicle hit his bicycle in Elkhart.

The crash happened at the corner of Bristol Street and Wilson Avenue. The vehicle hit the 13-year-old from behind. He was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

The driver wasn’t hurt. Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash, according to police.

Bristol Street was blocked off while police were on the scene. It was expected to re-open around 9 a.m. Tuesday.

He wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time, according to police. Police are reminding you to wear safety equipment if riding a bicycle, and to wear reflective clothing if riding in the dark.
