Beacon Health Systems is laying off 70 employees, citing increased health care costs.

The positions being lost are mostly in corporate services, laundry, and Beacon Health Ventures, according to the Elkhart Truth.

The South Bend-based company said the employees are eligible to be hired in the over 300 position the company has available, though they will need to qualify for them and won’t automatically be placed in them, according to a spokeswoman.

It’s not known how the layoffs will impact Elkhart General Hospital or Memorial Hospital in South Bend. The layoffs represent 1 percent of the over 7,000 workers Beacon employs.
