A man is dead of a single gunshot wound after police showed up to do a welfare check Friday.

Police arrived at the home near Cabot Ave. and Grant St. and knocked on the door. The man initially responded, but didn’t say anything else before a lone gunshot was heard, according to ABC 57.

Police say the man was involved in a Special Victims Unit investigation. Investigators were concerned about his welfare, which prompted the check.

After hearing the gunshot, officers backed off and secured the home before SWAT showed up, according to police.

After getting a search warrant, officers entered home and discovered the man dead of a single gunshot wound.

The Metro Homicide Unit is investigating.
