The crash happened when a disabled semi that was stopped on the shoulder was struck by another tractor-tanker. The semi tanker then collided with another east bound semi tractor-trailer forcing both trucks into the center median, state police reported.

The semi tanker caught fire after the collision and the crash caused both east and west bound lanes of the toll road to come to a standstill in the area, state police reported.

Zieger was pronounced dead at the scene. Another driver from New Orleans, Louisiana involved in the crash was taken to a local hospital for his injuries.

Five hours after the crash, traffic on the toll road was still restricted to a single lane in both directions.
