Elkhart Fire Departments wants over $5 million for new training facility and equipment

(Bill Beck/Elkhart Truth)

A new training facility and equipment maintenance could be coming if the Elkhart Fire Department gets its wish from the Elkhart City Council.

The fire department is seeking $5.07 million through 2021, according to the Elkhart Truth.

The Elkhart City Council hasn’t yet acted on the plans, which were presented in preliminary form in November. Assistant Fire Chief Steve Kamp told the Elkhart Truth this past week that there hasn’t been a formal request submitted.

However, fire officials would like to see the new training facility start to take shape in the coming year. Also, Kemp wants to get a head start on equipment replacements that will be necessary between 2017 and 2021, though the current fire equipment is in good shape.

Pretty simple guys… Become more efficient and apply that revenue within your own organization. Do not ask the taxpayers to pony up!

Interesting timing though, I’ll give you credit for that approach. With two 9 alarm fire s is on each coast. But you don’t use scare tactics…I won’t work as we haven’t had anything approaching a catastrophe in the last hundred years.
