Elderly Elkhart man dies two weeks after Cassopolis St. crash

A 77-year-old Elkhart man has died two weeks after being involved in a crash on Cassopolis St. in Elkhart.

Richard Ashcroft had been in the hospital since Dec. 1 after he reportedly pulled into the path of an oncoming Jeep on Cassopolis St. near C.R. 4. He died Friday, according to the Elkhart Truth.

Ashcroft had to be extricated from his car as a result of the crash. He was rushed to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

Ashcroft was alone in his vehicle. The driver of the Jeep wasn’t badly hurt. Officers don’t expect there to be any charges against the Jeep driver, according to the Elkhart Truth.
