It turns out it was an inmate who tipped off Pulaski County authorities about a 3-year-old child locked inside a box.

Police say deputies were tuned into an inmate’s phone call at the Westville Correctional Facility when they heard him talking about a little girl being locked inside a box at her home, according to WSBT.

The next day, police raided the home in North Judson near County Road 750 and County Road 800 North and found the girl asleep in the box.

The child’s stepmother, Donna Short, and father, Christoper Short were charged with neglect of a dependent, along with 18-year-old Patricia Meeks. The others were charged with failure to report child abuse.

The Department of Child Services took custody of the girl and several other children.
