Wait continues for trial in Coloma double murder case

The wait continues in a double murder case from Coloma.

That’s because accused killer Alex Perez has not yet been admitted to a state psychiatric center, according to WSJM.

Perez is accused of beating both Renee and John Mitchell to death in their Coloma home on Jan. 15. Perez fled the area, but was eventually caught in Colorado.

A judge ruled in June that he was incompetent to stand trial and was ordered to get treatment, which hasn’t been done yet. The case is on hold until space opens up at the state psychiatric center, the Berrien County Prosecutor’s Office told WSJM.
