The South Bend Community School Corp. board has fired a bus driver and paraprofessional who were involved in an incident that left a child on a bus.

A kindergartner left on a bus for seven hours on Nov. 30. Monday, the two were fired, according to the South Bend Tribune.

The board said the firings were due to “neglect of duty” and were effective on Dec. 14. The bus wasn’t properly inspected by the driver, and the school marked the child absent but failed to call the child’s home about the absence.

The child had fallen asleep on the bus, which should have been checked front to back after the children were dropped off at the school in the morning.
