RENSSELAER, Ind. (AP) — Trustees of Indiana’s Saint Joseph’s College have voted to temporarily close the institution’s Rensselaer campus later this year because of shaky finances.

The college announced Friday it’s bachelor of science nursing program operated in Lafayette will continue, but all activities at its Rensselaer campus will be suspended at the end of the spring 2017 semester.

Saint Joseph’s officials say the college is trying to partner with other colleges to provide a smooth transition for students who will continue their education.

President Robert Pastoor says the decision to temporarily suspend operations may allow the college to remain alive. Pastoor has said the Roman Catholic college needs $100 million to continue serving students.

There are about 900 students enrolled at the college, located about 85 miles southeast of Chicago. It has a staff of approximately 200.
