Mother sentenced to 240 days behind bars after son’s death

A Berrien County woman whose boyfriend murdered her 8-month-old son was sentenced for her role in the child’s death.

Amber Atchley was sentenced to 240 days in prison and three years of probation. This, one year after the death of Carter Donovan, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

Atchley had left her son with Brandon Beshires while she went to a doctor’s appointment, according to court documents.

Beshires killed the boy while she was gone, then, threatened Atchley to keep her from giving police his name, court documents stated. Several hours later, she brought the boy to the hospital and was charged with being an accessory, after the fact, in her son’s death.

Last week, Beshires was sentenced to life in prison without the chance for parole.
