Road rage incident leads to shooting on I-94

A tractor trailer traveling westbound  on I-94 abougt one mile east of the Burns Harbor exit was shot at around 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22.

The semi had been traveling in the right lane.  The semi made a lane change to make a pass of a second semi that was traveling in the right lane at a slower rate.  At the same time, a gray SUV approached from the rear at a high rate and attempted to pass on the right, according to Indiana State Police.

When the SUV was unable to make the pass, an altercation occured between the SUV and the semi in the center lane, the ISP reported.

As the SUV attempted to pass the semi, the driver of the semi heard a gunshot and felt something strike his leg.  The SUV then completed passing the semi and continued west on I-94.

Further investigation did reveal that the semi truck did receive gunfire.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or observed a gray SUV with an Indiana license plate driving erratically during this time is encouraged to contact Trooper Bohling or Detective Runde at 219-696-6242.
