GREENWOOD, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say a young girl has died after her mother accidentally backed over her in the driveway of a central Indiana home.

The Indianapolis Star reports 23-month-old Ella-Lee Hammons was taken to a hospital after being injured Thursday evening at the home in Johnson County and later died. An investigative report released Friday says the girl’s mother didn’t know the child was behind the vehicle.

Authorities tell WXIN-TV the SUV was being moved to make way for another vehicle. The girl’s father told investigators the girl was among children playing in the yard.

The death is under investigation.
