Elkhart manufacturing plant closing after just nine months in operation

The news could have been a lot worse for employees who only just started in June.

Skyline Corp. will cease production at its Elkhart facility, according to the Elkhart Truth.

The company is one of the nation’s oldest providers of manufactured housing. They leased a facility from Forest River in June.

About 90 employees were affected by the closure, but most of them have already been hired by Thor Industries Inc., who is the world’s largest manufacturer of RVs. Thor had been invited to interview employees that were about to be laid off. Employees who had not been hired by Thor had other opportunities they were exploring, according to a Skyline spokesperson.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company said they were never able to meet production requirements and turn a profit at the leased facility.
