Elkhart teenage boy identified following fatal wreck near Wakarusa

A 17 year-old boy killed in a crash near Wakarusa at the intersection of C.R. 36/New Rd./Nappanee St. and S.R. 19 has now been identified.

Breckin Hamby of Elkhart died in the crash that happened just before 7:45 p.m. Sunday, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

Hamby was a passenger in a car traveling eastbound through the intersection when it was hit by pick-up truck driven by a 62-year-old Elkhart woman. The pick-up then hit a second vehicle which also struck the car.

Two others in the car, including at least one other 17-year-old, were unconscious when they were taken to the hospital. The 17-year-old girl driving the car was also hospitalized.

The Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.
