Wakarusa Police Department precinct vote tabled for another month

The vote to create a new facility for the Wakarusa Police Department has been tabled until next month.

The Town Council says they want their officers to be able to do their jobs efficiently, and supporters of a new building say the department has outgrown the house that serves as its headquarters, according to WSBT.

Officers have worked in the home precinct since 1992 when the council was looking for a temporary home away from the town hall, but it ended up becoming permanent.

Town leaders seek to renovate the former Key Bank building and turn it into the new police station, but there are concerns about the price tag. If the plan is approved the work could be finished by the summer of next year.
