The mother of a teen accused of robbery in Elkhart solved the case for officers.

The robbery happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. Sunday at an apartment in the 900 block of Bontrager Avenue.

The 17-year-old knocked on the door of the victim’s apartment and asked for a cigarette. When the victim turned to get the cigarette, the teen walked in, pointed a gun at the woman, and demanded money. He took cash and other property from the apartment and fled, according to Elkhart police.
