Water rate hike, gun safety resolution approved by South Bend council members

South Bend Common Council members have passed a resolution to support tougher gun safety laws in Indiana.

Appearing on 95.3 MNC ahead of Monday’s vote, Council President Tim Scott said they want to send a message to the State House to pass tougher laws to keep guns out of the hands of violent criminals, domestic abusers, and those with severe mental illness.

The council also voted to raise water bills to improve the water system.

The plan would raise rates around $2 each month next year and nearly $3 in 2019.

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg issued the following statement regarding water rates ahead of Monday’s vote:

“Delivering safe, clean drinking water is one of our most fundamental obligations to the residents we serve. I have confidence that the Council, as the established fiscal body, is prepared to make good on that obligation. We cannot afford further delay on critical funding for needed repairs to our water infrastructure. After months of dialogue with the Council, we presented a compromise proposal nearly three weeks ago that covers only the most urgent needs for the near term, and the time for action has come.”

Interesting that South Bend and Mishawaka have decided “water” infrastructure is crap and they need money, money and money to fix it. Maybe stop with the crazy tax abatements for companies that never follow through and use that money for “infrastructure”. I know, stupid idea!

Common sense gun laws... March 28, 2017 at 12:34 pm

So, they supported a resolution to have stricter laws to make unlawful people having guns for unlawful purposes more unlawful. Yeah, that will work…idiots…

You want to raise taxes? How about this, tax all people who do not carry weapons in their own defense pay a tax to support the law enforcement they want everyone else to pay for. You want ‘society’ to be responsible? Fine, pay up.
